THE HOMESTEAD IS A UNIQUE CREATED FROM THE WORD HOMESTEAD MEANING HOUSE WITH ADJOINING LAND. OUR SPECIAL EVENT AT THE FARM IS THE HAUNTING

This team of miniature horses, Max (white) and Dozer (sorrel), is where it all began. I had never known about the history of the miniature horse, but I had love in my heart for my barn friends. The more I researched the historical events of the miniature horse, it became my passion and now my mission. It is a part of the visit at the farm to share the historical facts of the miniature horses with all of our visitors so the stories will go on. I have found that there are many others that had no knowledge of their history. In 1913 there were over 70,000 miniature horses underground in Wales England and Britain's mines except they called them Pit Ponies. Interestingly some of the American Miniature Horses today are descended from the bloodlines of these Pit Ponies. The Pit Ponies used to live underground in stables and work for 2 to 3 years at a time and usually weighed about 200 to 300 pounds and could pull about 10 times their weight. It is believed that the one of last Pit Ponies passed away in 1999. On a visit to The Homestead we will share many stories to help educate and pass on the knowledge and History of the Miniature horse known as the Pit Pony.
